Fisherman’s Corner: Barracuda! It’s what’s for Dinner!

Fisherman’s Corner: Barracuda! It’s what’s for Dinner!

For those of you thinking this article is a joke, you are dreadfully wrong. Why you ask? Well, if you haven’t been lucky enough to have tasted barracuda you are missing out, and I mean big time! Barracuda offers a very nice medium textured white flesh that seems to absorb any seasoning you can add to it. Raw it has a distinct light blue hue, but don’t let that scare you off. If you try it, your gunna be hooked!

Despite the gruesome look and untamed demeanor, these fish are one of the greatest sport fish you will ever catch. They run, jump, streak, and splash! On rod & reel they are tough fighters and hard to land. They are very smart, and the larger ones (those you want) are extremely finicky. The easiest way to take them is on scuba with a spear gun. Hitting one behind the eye usually stones (kills) them making them easy to get control of for the stringer!  Some don’t go down easily though and that makes for some great & challenging sport!  Watch out!  Barracuda blood is easily the #1 Shark Attractant there is on the planet, so you better grow some eyes in the back of your head mate!  Just be alert, and have a safety diver for protection against shiteaters if possible. Worst case, just feed the shark the barracuda and go get another one. Remember to bleed them out immediately in order to preserve the meat!

If you do end up with a barracuda and don’t know what to do with it.  Just give me a call at 850-485-3667, and I’ll give you the recipes you’ll need or be glad to take it off your hands! Good Hunting!
