Fisherman’s Corner: I wanna eat that Bad Fish!

Fisherman’s Corner: I wanna eat that Bad Fish!

Yes, its true! The Lionfish, one of the worlds 10 most destructive invasive species has decided to move into the Caribbean & Gulf of Mexico. This has actually been going on for years, but it wasn’t until recently that the tables started to turn.  Literally right on the dinner table!

For years, the people of Florida and the Florida Wildlife Commission have been fighting what was once thought of as a losing battle. The invasive Lionfish has been gradually spreading all along both coastlines of the southern United States, and the fight to eliminate them is critical. They eat everything, including the juveniles of every reef and game fish indigenous to our ocean waters. These little beauties can also reproduce at a alarming rate, and something has to be done. They are NOT welcome in our hemisphere!

But now, Florida Divers & fisherman have discovered these fish might be a blessing in disguise.  FYI, the meat tastes like lobster!  Lionfish is now finding its way to the diner table all across Florida!  Its becoming a very sought after quarry for all fishermen & divers! Even commercial fishermen are starting to get involved and hopefully developing a market for them across the country. Help us rid our seas of this menace, and eat a Lionfish today! You wont be sorry
